Judicial Portrait  

A portrait of the Hon. Russell T. Lloyd was unveiled by his daughter, Leslie, and son, James, in a special ceremony on March 20 in the Civil Courthouse. The ceremony honored Judge Lloyd’s years of service on the 334th District Court of Harris County, from 1989 until 1999.

 

Judicial Retirement  

The Hon. Tim Taft was joined by his former briefing attorneys at a farewell ceremony and portrait presentation on April 29at South Texas College of Law. The ceremony, which included tributes from members of the bench and bar, honored Justice Taft for his years of service on Houston’s First Court of Appeals.

 

 

Civil/Appellate Bench Bar Conference

The Houston Bar Association held the Civil/Appellate Bench Bar Conference April 24-25 at the San Luis Resort and Conference Center in Galveston, with over 220 civil and appellate judges and attorneys attending. Program topics included practicing law during disasters such as Hurricane Ike, updates on the Supreme Court and Houston appellate courts, and programs on ethics for attorneys and the judiciary. The conference was co-chaired by Benny Agosto, Jr. of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend and Macey Reasoner Stokes of Baker Botts L.L.P.

“Ethics Jeopardy,” led by Scott Rothenberg, was a popular part of Saturday’s program. Members of the winning team pictured here received gift cards from Target.

 

 

Small breakout groups gave attorneys and judges the opportunity for face-to-face discussion on issues such as practicing law when disaster strikes.
